Forms & Elements: Living spaces – living the dream
Home ownership, dreams of having a place to call your own and an individual house are desires deep-rooted in every one of us from our childhood onwards.
The ambience, the atmosphere, the aura of the place: each person has specific notions in mind. However, this dream is for many people a lifelong yearning– an objective, unattainable, tinged with melancholy or with little hope of fulfilment. In contrast, others do not feel that a permanent home address is so important. For them, ‘the journey is the reward’, and home is the people they live with and place where they feel most comfortable at any given moment. In this case, the actual accommodation plays a subordinate role. It may be a in a high-rise building, a block of flats or an upmarket detached house – the ‘four’ walls, no matter whether they are owned or rented, primarily offer protection from the elements and security. Generously proportioned living spaces convey a sense of freedom and lightness and generally make day-to-day life less complicated but, realistically, spacious homes are reserved for an increasingly small proportion of the population nowadays. But where would we be if nobody took the time to dream? To imagine our own future homes, to set goals, and weigh up our wishes? We hope that you will be inspired by the living spaces featured in this issue.
